Understanding the allotment process
How are IPO shares allotted?
The issue registrar processes applications and publishes the basis of allotment. Your investor category, valid application details, demand, and the issue’s offer terms affect the result.
Check the relevant category
Retail, non-institutional, and institutional categories can have different eligibility and reservation rules. Mainboard and SME issues can differ. Refer to the specific offer document; a generic percentage is not a rule for every IPO.
Subscription is a demand measure
A subscription multiple compares bids with the shares offered in that category. Oversubscription can affect allocation, but the multiple alone cannot tell you whether an individual application received shares. Use the final registrar result.
Understand blocked funds
Under ASBA, the application amount is blocked in your bank account. The applicable amount is debited after allocation and excess blocked funds are released through the bank’s process. Contact your bank or broker about a delayed release.
